Womble Wobble Avoided

A few weeks ago Wimbledon would have hammered a Pools side lacking in confidence. How things have changed. The visitors are a lively enterprising outfit with several exceptional players and - being totally honest - they deserved at least a draw ...

But the new Pools simply won't accept defeat. Drawing 1-1- thanks to fairly awarded penalties the visitors had their tails up in the second half.

But Pools never slacked and when they got their chance they took it brilliantly. James Poole held the ball up and set up a  move down the right which saw Simon Walton pick out the head of Luke James in the middle of the penalty area.

He was, as ever, being chapperoned by a much bigger defender, but such wes the accuracy of the cross the big lad couldn't get a look in as Luke sent in a superb looping header.

That annoyed the Dons even more but they lacked accuracy in their shooting. On-loan Dolan showed them how to do it when he sent in a crisp left footer from outside the box which had enough pace to squirm under the body of the diving keeper.

This was not Pools best display so far. They worked their socks off even though several players looked as though they were still recovering from Saturday's 10 man heroics.
