The salary cap has been a major hindrance to Cooper's ambitions, but he now has only the rest of this week to bring in a loan player.
Presumably he's got someone in mind, hence the negotiation which sees the rest of Howard's contract bought out in a deal which doubtless suits both parties.
The 37 year old first played for Pools in the mid to late 90s, scoring 27 times in 142 appearances. He moved on to Northampton Town, Luton Town, Derby Country and Leicester City before returning for the start of the disastrous 2012-13 season.
With that bit of business out of the way the management can now concentrate on getting us into the play-offs.
After Saturday's 2-0 win over Northampton we are now in 12th place and, most importantly, just three points off the play-off places.
