The morphing of Hartlepool United into Middlesbrough Old Boys FC could be complete with the appointment of Steve Pears as assistant manager. He would follow latest signings of Matthew Bates and Stuart Parnaby in joining former teammate Colin Cooper ... 

Pears, of course, did play for Pools dujring an uillustrious career which started at Man U and also included Liverpool as well as the two North East clubs.

He was goalkeeping coach at Boro until the new boss had a clear out last November.

Cooper certainly needs some help as he looks to bringing on a host of talented youngsters. Full back Parnaby was once one of that breed, and has actually won a few things - most notably a League Cup winners medal with Birmingham in 2011.

He returned to the Riverside but, like Bates, has suffered from injury and was released at the end of the last campaign.
