Winning Is A Habit

Anyone who thinks the present Pools side is on the way to promotion needs to take a big step backwards. We've ridden our luck in the last two games and come away with vital league points but this team is very much a work in progress.

Terery Butcher's Newport County succumbed to a belting individual goal from Scott Fenwick but if the visitors had had their own finisher they could easily have won.

They were a well organised side who passed the ball round well, but only tested Bartlett once when he had to gather at the second attempt. A totally different approach to the one employed by York but once again our spirit saw us through.

We could have had two more when Bingham turned delightfully but his lobbed attempt was saved by Day in the County goal.

Billy Paynter should have got another l when he managed to get in a close range shot afer the ball got stuick between him and Michael Woods, but a dewfender heroically blocked on the line.

Fenwick's blockbuster came after 51 minutes whenh he seized on a loose ball 25 yards out and let loose with his right foot -the ball screaming into the top right hand corner of the goal with Day helpless.

It showed what he can do when he polays cdentre of the park but Paynter and Bingham are already occupoying that specacde. fenwoick is mnanfully doing a job on the left but we looked a much bettrer balanced side when Rhy bOatews cxame on fort the last 15 minutes.

We also have Brad Walker coming back and Dan Jones recovbering from injury so it will be very binteretsing to see the staring 11 come Christmas.
