Credit to the new owners for reacting so quickly. Ronnie Moore leaves with everyone's best wishes and thanks for the miracles he produced at the end of last season. But that magic has not been present this time around and something had to be done ..
It can be argued that the club has struggled ever since Hignett left when he was assistant manager to Colin Cooper.
Can he hack it as Number One? He's said to be a joker, very popular and prone to surprising people such as when he left Pools and then the Boro.
This is his chance to run a team the way he wants it, and we will soon get an idea of what he is about when he announces his support staff (with Sam Collins off to look after the Under 21s.)
They will inherit a decent bunch of players, not without skill or athleticism, but desperately needing some stability and structure on the field.
Higgy has been seen at the Vic quite often this season. His first team selection will be interesting - and vital.
