Sam Allardyce stole the show as Sunderland won the friendly at the Vic thanks to three first half goals. His elevation to the England job deflecting attention away from an uninspired home performance.

Pools tried to move the ball around, but it was too disjointed with the defence never looking comfortable even when Sunderland changed their entire side for the second half.

Hignett says he's happy with the way things are shaping up - but he's had the advantage of seeing the players in training. They'll need to be a lot sharper and bettter organised when Colchester visit next month.
