Poor Game - Great Result

Why one of Pools' few night home games was at the end of a cold wet Novemrber, just before Christmas and on a night when top European football was on the telly beggars belief. As a result only a couple of thousand witnessed only our second home league win. Did they miss much? Sadly, no.

There wasn 't much quality football on show by either side and both look doomed to bottom half on this show.

Pools blooded a young left back in Martin who has all the attributes - apart from physique - and he can be proud of his effort.

The game did come alive in the second half when a cross from the left was heading for Amond who was pulled back by the Accrington full back Mark Hughes. Toto was behind him and did get his head to the ball but the goalie pulled off a great save.

However the ref had seen the blatant pull and promptly awarded a penalty and sent Hughes off,  which the visiting players hotly contested, and then tried all kinds of ungentlemanly conduct to put Amond off his kick.

It worked as the ball was eaily saved. but fortunately for justice - and Pools - Dverdics manged to scissor kick one of several rebounds into the net.

Both keeprs had lots of saves to make but none of them to threatening shots as both sides blazed wide or failed to put their foot through their goal attempts.

Thanks to all the furore there was six minutes of added time much to the groans of the Poolies. However, they need not have worried as Amond put a decent cross into the box from the right and Allesandra timed his run pefection to poke the ball home.

We still don't seem to have a shape and certainly didn't by playing three centre halves.
