Gobern has played for England at youth levels, and joined Pools to provide more options on the flank. Primarily a right sided player, he can also play on the left. However he was denied permission to play in the FA Cup and then picked up an ankle injury, and made just two appearances for Pools.


Name: Martin Woods
Debut for Pools: v Oldham, Division 2, 11/9/04

On Loan From: Leeds
Role: Winger

Woods joined just in time to play against Oldham as Pools struggled with injuries. The Scotland Youth player improved throughout his spell, and was due to stay for a second month - only to be recalled by Leeds just days into his second spell and placed onto the bench as their injury crisis deepened.

Former Grimsby player Pouton is from the North-East, and came back to the region for a one month spell with Pools in part to get some match fitness and in part to help plug gaps for Pools. His debut at Oldham was as part of a very makeshift looking Pools side, but he progressed from that, made six appearances, and was starting to look like he could go on and make a real impact when Gillingham refused to renew his loan move for another month.

Frozen out and available on a free transfer from Barnsley, Betsy joined Pools on the eve of the 2004/5 season. After some promising performances and even a goal against Huddersfield, Pools tried to sign him permanently - only for Betsy to play them off against Oldham, eventually signing for the Latics after he was offered more money. Ironically, his debut came against Pools and he of course had a blinder!
