Made It! Poolie Pride goes Top 30

Backslaps all round then! Hartlepool United may not have delivered on the pitch yesterday, but the Poolie Pride single by the Monkey Hangerz has reached the charts: it's a new entry this week at 24. Several other new entries to the chart find themselved embarrassed by a collective of HUFC Fans.
Although it may have not quite broken into the Top 20, it wasn't far off: and when you look at some of the records it's outsold, the achievement by the Poolie Pride CD starts to come into perspective.
Bananarama, Jamiroquai, Kubb, My Chemical Romance, Corinne Bailey Ray: singles by all of those artists were released this week - and were outsold by the Monkey Hangerz. The Eurythmics and Katie Melua shifted fewer singles this week than a CD available in just three retail outlets in one small part of the UK. Maybe Top of the Pops is out of the question, but the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles will from now on include an entry for Poolie Pride.
So will there be another single? An Album? A catalogue to rival the Beatles for quality and quantity? Err, almost certainly not. But it does prove something: a throwaway "mad" idea on a messageboard can lead almost anywhere.....
