Racing legend Sir Stirling Moss has blasted Michael Schumacher, calling him 3rd best in Formula 1 and a devious cheat. Moss was extremely angry at Schumacher's actions at the Monaco Grand Prix this year, and believes Schumacher's image has been irrevocably damaged. First this is what Sir Stirling Moss had to say about who is the best in our sport today:
"I think Alonso and Raikkonen are the two who are head and shoulders above everybody else.I think if Raikkonen had an equal car with Alonso he’d be up with him. I don’t know who would be better, and until he gets the car we don’t know he’d be that good. But my feeling is that those two are at the very top, and then there’s quite a gap before you get down to people like Schumacher."
Moss went on to speak about Schumacher's actions at the Monaco Grand Prix this year which saw Michael sent to the back of the grid for intentionally parking his car in the middle of the track during qualifying. Sir Stirling Moss continued, speaking about Schumacher's driving talent and reputation in general:
"I think it’s appalling what he did at Monaco, but it didn’t interest me that much because in any case he made a lot of mistakes. He made mistakes because you can make mistakes with a modern car because you’ve got all these electronics on it. But you can’t compare now with then, because if he’d made those mistakes then he’d be dead, but then he’s smart enough that maybe he wouldn’t have made the mistakes given the likely consequences. I hope history will look back and think he’s bloody awful. I mean, what he did at Monaco was terrible.
In my mind his greatest contribution to racing was that he took Ferrari, and because of his personality, his driving talent and his intelligence in getting the right people, he brought them from rock bottom to the very top. As far as his driving is concerned, I think that he’s a very good driver, no doubt about it, I wouldn’t take that away from him. The trouble is that you feel if the world champion can cheat, what sort of people are the others like? You know, if you were talking about another sport that I wasn’t in, and I knew that the best guy in the world was cheating, I’d say that brings him down a bit, doesn’t it?"
