Schumacher
Still In The
Title Fight

Despite a disappointing and rather 'un-Schumi-like' Hungarian Grand Prix, there is no doubt that Schumacher is still in the fight for the 2006 World Drivers' Championship. No matter what happened in Budapest, it is now in the past and Michael will certainly be more focused than ever to beat Fernando Alonso and Renault. Schumacher had this to say about his current title hopes:

"I will say it only once, the championship is still open."

Simple and determined, something we more used to seeing from the 7-Time World Champion, rather than his arguably foolish driving throughout the Hungarian Grand Prix. As I said though that race is now in the past and Schumacher is determined to fight back.

After taking one point out of Fernando Alonso's Championship lead, at the expense of Robert Kubica's disqualification, Michael is now only 10 points behind Alonso. All it would take to bring the two men to even terms is for Michael to win and for Fernando to not finish or score any points. This may not be too likely given Renault's reliability and we will probably see a very close 5 races.

Turkey and Italy will all but certainly suit the Ferrari 248 F1 package and a Michael Schumacher victory in both events could easily bring him past Alonso. Japan, China and Brazil will not be as certain to favour the Ferrari team with Fernando likely coming out on top in at least one of the events (Japan most likely). China and Brazil are certainly up for grabs to either men. Barring any catastrophic events, like Hungary, happening to either driver, we will undoubtedly see a fantastic race for the title.

As of right now though, things seem to be tipping in Michael Schumacher's favour, despite what happened in Hungary.
