Michael Schumacher's hometown of Kerpen has rejected a proposal to formally honour the 7-Time World Champion. The proposal put forth by a Schumacher fan, was shot down by town officials on the basis that Schumacher never really did anything for the town. A town representitive had this to say:

"The honour should be given to someone who worked for many years and maybe even decades for the benefit of our town, Kerpen."

Perhaps they are right, maybe Schumacher never did anything to benefit the town of Kerpen, but one might assume that with over a decade and a half of being one of the worlds most successful racing drivers, that Michael may have helped the town in terms of tourism and reputation. In contrast the Italian town of Maranello granted Schumacher honorary citizenship just a week ago.

It must be said though that Michael Schumacher is the only living person from Kerpen who has a street in the town named after him.
