| Kimi Raikkonen has avoided answering questions about his upcoming Championship campaign at the Scuderia Ferrari. Raikkonen is never one to talk much, though he has given nothing away with regards to what he thinks his chances are in 2007. The Finn was asked why he seemed slower than team mate Felipe Massa during testing: "We are going to go to the first race in very good form. and we will try to win as many races as we can and hopefully the title." One would expect this response from a driver who has joined a new team and does not want to create any friction between himself, his team mate and his team. Raikkonen was again cautious when asked whether the F2007 was the best racecar he had ever driven: "The car is very good but you never know what the others are doing so we have to wait and see what happens in Melbourne." Again, a good response when you do not want to create any trouble. Kimi was then asked what team looks to be on top so far, to which he responded: "I don't pay attention to what our rivals are doing." A good attitude, focussed entirely on doing the best you can with your own team. So Raikkonen has done well to deflect any concerns or penetrating questions which could possibly result in trouble for him. Unfortunately this does not provide for much excitement, for journalists or fans. Like them or not (I personally hate them) but Jacques Villeneuve and Juan Pablo Montoya were always quick on the offensive and intriguing comments. This always made for interesting news and added to the excitement of the sport. Kimi has never been a very exciting person, though one would hope that the passion of the Scuderia would pull him out of his corner. It has not and we are stuck with the same mumbling, boring, quiet Kimi Raikkonen of yesteryear. Let us hope his racing abilities have not changed either, at least not for the worse. Long live the Iceman. |
