It was a wet start for the first round of the 2007 World Championship today, with the first free practice session starting in wet conditions. The two Ferrari drivers went to the top of the timming sheets immediately when they took to the track with wet weather Bridgestone tyres. The track continued to dry and Ferrari continued to be quick.

Drivers would come into the pits for dry tyres and take to the track in the dwindling minutes of the session. Massa was able to set a very quick time relative to his fellow competitors, though he was not out long enough. This meant he could only finish 2nd quickest, behind Fernando Alonso in the McLaren. It was a similar story for Kimi Raikkonen who was set to take the fastest time, though could not complete his lap before the session ended.

It was a positive result for Ferrari, though not a true indication of pace for 2007. The second free practice session should be completely dry and more representitive of Ferrari's pace in relation to their competitors.
