There is doubt regarding Michael Schumacher's return to racing at the upcoming European Grand Prix. A combination of his being forbidden to test the current F60 car and a lack of neck strength caused by a motorcycle accident, means Michael may not be prepared to race.

In order to familiarise Michael with the team's current vehicle, Ferrari petitioned the FIA and all other Formula 1 teams to allow him test. As in season testing is forbidden under the sporting regulations, the Scuderia would need unanimous approval to have Schumacher test. Williams, Toro Rosso and Red Bull refused to permit the exception. Williams' refusal was met with a particularly stinging comment from Ferrari's official site: "Guess who opposed the test with the F60? A team that hasn't won anything for years and yet didn't pass over the opportunity to demonstrate once more a lack of spirit of fair playJust for the record, the Scuderia Ferrari had given its approval to let Alguersuari test, but it seems even in this instance someone decided to stick to the precise wording of the regulations." With Schumacher unable to test the F60, Ferrari did arrange for a test of its 2007 car which was prepared by F1 Clienti and as such, circumvented the testing ban. However, testing the old 2007 is not an adequate substitute for the latest Ferrari. "It's still not 100% sure his neck can hold. His comeback completely depends on what will come out of his medical tests. Those tests are still pending. When the results are positive Michael will be able to enjoy his comeback in Formula 1." As far as we are aware, the 7-Time World Champion is still on track to return to Formula 1, though he must maintain a dedicated training programme to ensure his fitness. |
