Bridgestone seemed to be back on pace at this weekend's European Grand Prix, but they still lack performance in qualifying. Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher were both able to score points despite starting 7th and 10th respectively.

Bridgestone has yet to win a race this season, but with a significant improvement in performance at the European Grand Prix, a victory could come very soon. All six drivers who have Bridgestone tyres on their cars finished the race and two scored points. Obviously it was Rubens barrichello in 3rd and Michael Schumacher in 5th who scored the points, but both Minardis and Jordans put in a decent performance.

Despite Bridgestone's performance in the race, they are totally rubbish in qualifying, and this ruins their chances of a race win. The Jordans and Minardis were at the back of the pack which is no surprise but Ferrari has been been in the middle of the field at every round. Ferrari is able to use Bridgestone's race performance to great advantage as they charge through the field, but unless their qualifying improves, they will not be victorious. Here is what Bridgestone's Hisao Suganuma had to say about the race in Germany:

“I’m very pleased to see the return of a Ferrari to the podium again. Rubens drove a good race and deserved the reward. He also set the third quickest lap in the race this afternoon and I think overall, today’s result was a reflection of our good tyre performance in race trim. We had no tyre issues such as high wear or blisters and I am only sorry that the Ferrari drivers got caught up in the first corner incident. Had they not been held up and had a clear run I think they could have capitalised even more. The Jordan and Minardi drivers all finished the race too which I am pleased to see and we now look forward to the two flyaway races in Montreal and Indianapolis.”
