The Rain Is Even To Much For Schumacher

Today's free practice for the Belgian was a complete wash-out as not even Michael Schumacher could tackle the wet circuit. The rain saw only a few drivers take to the track at a time, even then all of the laps were rather slow.

The Rain Is Even To Much For Schumacher

Michael Schumacher
FP 1: 8th - 1'50.564
FP 2: No Time

Michael Schumacher knew that the only way Ferrari would be able to win in Belgium, was for it to rain. Schumacher got his wish today during practice, though he should have been more careful about what he wished for. Spa was completely soaked and not even Bridgsetone's superior rain tyres could tackle the circuit. Here is what the 7-Time World Champion had to say about his sessions:

"This morning we did not look that competitive, but this afternoon we never got the chance to find out the real situation in terms of how we compare with the others. It was just too wet to go out. I think we would have needed a boat propeller to power our way round the track! The forecast is for more rain and if that is the case on Sunday, I can see us having to start the race behind the Safety Car. Maybe our tifosi have done too good a job with their rain dance!"

Rubens Barrichello
FP 1: 12th - 1'51.177
FP 2: No Time

Rubens Barrichello was even further down the order today as he too could not handle the wet track. Barrichello even hopes that it will rain less for the race, or it will be a literal wash-out. Here is what the Brazilian had to say after his first day:

"Even though I like driving in the wet, this afternoon there was just too much water on track and it was impossible to drive a Formula 1 car in these conditions. I hope it will not rain as much over the next two days."

Ross Brawn
Technical Director

Ferrari's Technical Director Ross Brawn is looking forward to see if the Bridgestone tyres will be as effective in the wet, as they have been over the previous seasons. Here is what Ross had to say:

"We only had one short run in the dry this morning with each of our drivers, when our car seemed reasonably well balanced, apart from a bit too much understeer. We made adjustments to deal with this, but of course we have not been able to check them to see if they have worked or not. Apparently, this mixed weather is what we can expect for the rest of the weekend, so hopefully we will have an opportunity to see how good the Ferrari-Bridgestone package is in the wet."
