Rubens Barrichello was pleased with his 5th fastest time in FP 2, a good showing for the Brazilian in front of a home crowd. Michael Schumacher is still having difficulties with a sluggish car and was down in 8th place in the same session.

Schumacher FP 1: 12th - 1'14.154 FP 2: 8th - 1'13.205 Michael Schumacher is now out of the championship race, and will finally surrender his title to Fernando Alonso at this race (barring any catastrophic events that would see Raikkonen hold on.) Schumacher was rather down beat about this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix. This is understandable as all season Ferrari has clearly struggled. Schumacher had to deal with a twitchy car, which appears to be sacrificing downforce, in order to take the high speed start/finish hill at a higher speed. Schumacher placed 12th and 8th in Free Practice 1 and 2 respectively. Here is what the 7-Time World Champion had to say about his sessions: "As usual, it is difficult to know after today’s practice what the true situation is and we will find that out after studying the data in terms of qualifying and the race. On the plus side we made progress from the morning to the afternoon. As usual here, the bumpy and slippery nature of the track makes the car quite uncomfortable to drive and it can feel unbalanced and twitchy. But I get the feeling we might be in slightly better shape than we have been recently." Rubens Barrichello FP 1: 13th - 1'14.282 FP 2: 5th - 1'13.088 Rubens Barrichello comes into this weekend a hero to the Brazilian fans, but his home track curse, seems to still be in effect. Of course Rubens has been dreadfully slow all season, and one would expect the same here in Brazil. This was indeed the case in Free Practice 1 as Barrichello was back in 13th position. The second session was a completely different story as he set the 5th fastest time, much to the delight of the Brazilian Tifosi. Here is what the Brazilian had to say after his first day: "To be honest, I was quite happy with the way the car went this afternoon, as we improved it quite a bit from the morning session. It behaved a little bit better than we had expected and we seem to be a bit more competitive than over the past couple of weekends, especially in race trim. Now we have to wait and see what the weather does tomorrow as that could be an important factor for the next two days." Ross Brawn |
