Is Ferrari Already Behind In V8 Development?

Even though the off season testing has just started, there are rumours that Ferrari is already off the pace. Because of Ferrari's difficulties in 2005, they may be hard pressed to design a V8 engine comparable to the competition.

Ferrari's struggle in 2005 to save grace and beat Toyota for third place in the Constructors' Championship meant the team was working on the F2005 right up until the last race. Other teams had competitive cars and were solidified in the standings early leaving them open for 2006 V8 development. Ferrari is currently the only team testing in the off season but they only trying to make up for lost ground. The very same team Ferrari had to defeat for 3rd is in fact the team furthest ahead in their 2006 car's development. Toyota is very pleased with how their V8 program is progressing and their own John Howett had this to say about it in relation to other teams:

"We seem to have done more kilometres than the other teams, so we seem to be in a good position."

Ferrari on the other hand is just starting to investigate the V8 engines and seem to be rather unsure about how it is going.
