Felipe Massa may have been quickest today during testing at Valencia, but Michael Schumacher in the new 248 F1 was off the pace. Schumacher drove Ferrari's 2006 car for its first real test but was almost a full second off the pace.

The young Brazilian drove a total of 73 laps of the Spanish circuit in a quickest time of 1'15.970. This was almost four tenths of a second faster than the man who he has replaced at Ferrari, Rubens Barrichell who came in second.

While Massa worked on Bridgestone tyre and V8 engine development in the F2004, Michael Schumacher worked on car development in the 248 F1. After 78 laps, Schumacher was nearly a full second of the pace with a 1'16.907, down in 8th position on the time sheets.

What does this mean for Ferrari? Nothing really, the 248 F1 is still in its development stages and can not be expected to be instantly quick out of the box. Schumacher continues testing with Ferrari's 2006 car tomorrow alongside Felipe Massa once again.
