Lewis passes batting milestones

Although disappointed at only managing a draw against bottom club Derbyshire, Jon Lewis had cause for celebration after passing two major batting milestones.

Jon Lewis this week passed 1000 first class runs for the season at an average of 47. He actually averages above 50 for championship games with a best this season of 124.

Lewis also passed 9000 first class runs in his career at an average of 34. He made his championship debut for Essex in 1990 and moved to Durham in 1997. He became Durham's vice captain in 2000 before replacing Nick Speak as captain towards the end the same season.

The record for first class runs in a season stands at 1536 and is held by Wayne Larkins who also holds the most career runs for Durham at 4278.

Gary Pratt and Michael Gough have passed 500 runs this season, their totals standing at 683 and 510 respectively.

It was also a good few days for Durham's overseas duo of Martin Love and Dewald Pretorius. Love made 100 not out against Bangladesh in the second test in Australia and Pretorius took five english wickets in the first test at Edgebaston.

Love will be returning to Durham after the current test match.
