After plenty of speculation, Durham finally completed the signing of Gavin Hamilton on a one year contract. He was announced as the final member of the 2004 squad today.

Hamilton is classed as a Right Arm Medium Fast bowler and will make the short journey from Yorkshire where he has been in the county squad for the last ten years. Hamilton played one test match at the end of 1999 in South Africa but was failed to take a wicket and was dismissed for a duck in both innings. He has only played in three Championship matches in the last two seasons but sees Durham as the perfect place to relaunch his professional career.

The official announcement of his signing stated that Hamilton "... will play an important part in Durham's one day campaign." but with Colly and Harmy likely to be unavailable for much of the season he is sure to be pushing for a place in the Championship squad as well.

The announcement brings Durham's tally of signings for 2004 to seven - overseas players Hershelle Gibbs and Shoaib Aktar, Jamaican captain Gareth Breese and three academy graduates Graham Onions, Ian Pattison and Liam Plunkett.
