Last night at a press conference at Stair Park Neil Watt was confirmed as the new manager of Stranraer FC and his assistant is Stuart Millar. Neil was the manager of Maryhill Juniors and Stuart was the manager of Cumbernauld United. Neil played for Stranraer in the eighties for 3 1/2 years.
At the press conference Neil said obviously he would be delighted if Stranraer could go straight back up and he would try to bring a good quality of football to Stranraer with a blend of youth and experience. He was asked about a reserve side and he thought it would be good for the club to have a reserve side and the discussions are ongoing. I asked him myself about the fact that the club had lost alot of respect locally because there was no community involvement and this was mainly due to the previous manager. He said that he was surprised at this because small towns like Stranraer should be community clubs and this was the case at previous clubs he'd been at like Forfar. Fans may remember Neil playing against Celtic at Parkhead in that infamous 1-0 defeat. He was made captain during his 3 1/2 year spell with the club. |
