Spring Cleaning Time

Billy McLaren today announced who will be leaving Stair Park and who willl be staying next season.

RELEASED: Mark McGeown, Steven O'Neill, Andy Paterson, Paul Blair, Billy Macdonald, Mark Weir, Pat Gallagher, Martin Glancy, George Shaw, John Dempster and Jered Stirling.

OFFERED NEW TERMS: Allan Jenkins, Sandy Hodge, Ian Harty, Dexi Wingate, David Farrell, Alex Grace. Jenkins and Hodge are both under 24 and the club would have to be compensated if another team signed them.

UNDER CONTRACT: Fraser Wright, Kevin Gaughan, Kevin Finlayson and Stevie Aitken

What does it all mean?

The players who are under contract will stay at the club as they all have one year of their current contract to fulfill. Players who have been offered new terms would probably be best to accept them as the current climate in football does not look good at the momement. The loss of Hodge, Harty, Wingate and Grace would create serious problems in the Stranraer defense and attack.

If both Mark McGeown and Steven O'Neill are freed this will also cause major problems on the goalkeeping front as the Blues do not have 'keeper waiting in the wings.

What about signing new players?

After last season this will be a priority for Billy McLaren. So far, Stranraer have expressed an interest in signing David McNiven (recently released by Hamilton Accies).
