New
Faces at Stair Park
Billy McLaren
has had a busy time over the last week or so, with the signing of
two new faces and also securing the services of another favourite
with the fans.
The
manager was please to announce that he has persuaded defender Derek
"Dexi" Wingate to remain with the Blues for at least
one more season. Dexi was signed from Junior side Benburb for the
start of last season, and it didn't take too long for him to establish
himself in the teams as a quality right-back. Also, Wingate was voted
Stranraer Supporters Player of the Year.
With
the departure of both Mark McGeown and Stephen O'Neil at the end of
last season, it was important that we signed a goalkeeper with some
experience under his belt. It looks like McLaren has done just that
with the signing of 28 year-old Willie McCulloch from Berwick
Rangers. McCulloch's previous teams have included Airdrie, Ayr United
and East Fife before moving to Berwick in March 2001.
The
last player signed definitely has the most experience and will certainly
for the backbone to the defense next season. Steven Renicks
24 year-old right sided defender from freed by Hamilton Academicals
at the end of the season. He spent 10 years with Hamilton, and made
no fewer than 228 appearances.
