Young Wanderers striker Paul Wheatcroft has been released by Bolton and looks set to join Third Division outfit Scunthorpe United.

It's the second time 21 year old Wheatcroft has been released in his short career after he was released by Manchester United in the summer of 2000, when he joined the Wanderers.
Wheatcroft made three appearance during his time at the Reebok, all three in either the FA Cup or Worthington Cup but he slipped further out of the first team picture last season, being loaned out to Third Division sides Rochdale and Mansfield Town.
Wheatcroft must have impressed the Scunthorpe management during his period at Spotland where he scored three goals in six appearance for a Rochdale side then chasing promotion. It seems the Iron will jump at the chance of signing Wheatcroft after it was revealed that he will be released from his contract.
