‘Dean said, “Are you sure about this?” I went back to the club after Gussy had left and asked if anything had changed, but they said no. That was that. Dean said, “What do you want?” I told him my fair market value and he knew I wasn’t taking the p*ss, so it was signed there and then. Done and dusted within a day.

‘At the start of last week, Quins did actually come back to me and, in a roundabout way, said they had changed their mind. They pushed a pretty low offer my way, but I had already signed with Newcastle and given my word to Dean, so it was too late.

‘Dean was my first coach. He gave me a lot of my breaks as a youngster and he’s done so much in the game, so I have a huge amount of respect for him. It’s really exciting to work with him again and I’ll give everything I’ve got for Newcastle.

'They’re an ambitious club. They were near the top of the table around Christmas and I want to go there to win silverware. Being a part of their success really motivates me. I’ve never known anything other than Quins so it’s a new challenge I’m excited about.

‘There are guys there who I know well, like Luther Burrell, Toby Flood, Mark Wilson and I can’t wait to get stuck in with them. They’re a great, tight-knit, hard-working bunch and I want to add to that.

'I’m also looking forward to working with the younger guys like Adam Radwan and Ben Stevenson. Hopefully I can offer some experience and perspective on what they’re already doing.

Well hopefully their loss is our gain. Penny can continue to learn and we have a very good FB in place.

He has played 240 Prem games for Quins

He wants 300 in total.

That sounds like a man desperate to keep going. I like that.

His form this season shows he’s more than capable of doing it too.
Moving your family from a place you wanted to stay all the way up here is a huge commitment too. I think he’ll add a lot to our squad and especially our young back three players - an old head who can still do the business is certainly what we need in the 11/14/15 positions.

Said it when it was rumoured, will say it again now. Potentially one of our best signings in a long long time.
He’s still the best full back in England. He’s got a point to prove, a chip on his shoulder and an attitude I’d love him to instil in others at the club. A great mentor for all our back three.
Absolutely chuffed to bits about this one, great work by all at the club.

I'm sure over the years a fair few of your fans have slated Mike for one thing or another but, once you've seen him play a few games for you I'm sure you'll love like we've have.
We're very sad about Mike leaving but are all wishing him well. Should be a great signing for you.

Not when he's been wearing an England shirt, one of those players that I hate when he's playing against my team and love when he's playing for my team. Could be an excellent signing, very good news and as someone said above a brilliant day for the Falcons yesterday.

From other clubs, Brown has been one of my favourite players over the years. Safe under the high ball, great tackler, good going forward always guaranteed to get over the gain line in tight situations and an aggressive in your face attitude. Can’t believe that Jones dropped him from the England squad.
As others have said - cracking signing, glad to see him here.

Great news. Welcome Mike. A great player who’s at the top of his form. Age irrelevant- (Peter Stringer etc)

If players are lucky to escape serious injury with the way these lads look after themselves and the support they get they can stretch out their careers further. Stringer is one. Wigglesworth at Tigers is still outstanding. Even our own Mr Flood had a very strong start to the season.

As someone mentioned brown is one of those players that you hated playing against as he is a right T**t on the pitch. But now he’s ours and I look forward to seeing him in a falcons strip. I think he’ll suit black. The game is less interesting without characters like Mike.

Can we have Joe Marler as well 😂

We would only have slated him cos he’s the type of s hit house who is great in your team but a s hit house cos he’s the opposition. He will be our s hit house now so we will love him.

I have to admit I wasn’t sure when this rumour first circulated. A 2 year contract for a 35 year old. However watching him for Quinn’s this season he has been excellent and is showing no signs of age catching him up.
He will hopefully be a great help in the development of our young talented wings and full backs

Haha yeah I agree there like, he has been fantastic this season.

A really good signing and another famous name to grace the Falcons shirt .
He is in great form and is a very good addition to the team. A two year contract seems shrewd and sensible but very happy.
We seem to do a good trade in good players in their twighlights years . Maybe it’s the ‘Falcons over 35 retirement plan’. ;-)

Couldn't agree more. Its taken a couple of seasons for him to get to grips with this level but now he must be one of the first names on the teams sheet.

It’s perfect for him cos there is certainly plenty fight in him.

Love it. Really looking forward to our fist game against Quins with Broon at FB.

Imagine him working with Penny, zach kerr, matty Ward, Morgan Passman, Iwan Stwphens, Adam Radwan Ben Stevenson..etc...

Perhaps we should offer thanks to former Gosforth RFC Paul Gustard for showing Broon the door.

I approve of the signing. At 35 he isn’t likely to be free from injury or improving. That isn’t being critical at all it seems to be the case that older players suffer more with injuries.
I approve because if he can only play for one more season as he has this last season then he will have delivered.
I also recall reading that he went to see Margot Wells wife of Alan Wells for speed training when he was young.
Indicative of a desire and willingness to try and be the best he can be that will hopefully rub off on the likes of Radwan, Stevenson and Penny.
I always liked him and happy to have him with us.

Let’s not forget this is a forum for fans to critically discuss the clubs decision making Captain Facetious... I think everyone that partakes is under no illusion that Semore and Deano consistently exceed our expectations.

I was only saying what I think, perhaps it is my turn of phrase. I am under no illusions that no-one of any consequence gives a dam about my opinions.

Don't take any notice of me Roger, I was just amusing myself on a quiet day! It does make me smile when others, (not specifically you I should add) seem to think we can sign anyone we want and equally can stop anyone leaving and "the coaching staff" are obviously at fault if this were ever to happen. Some may think my comments are facetious, personally I just think they are realistic - it's the easiest thing in the world to criticise from a cosy armchair! (Just look at some former England centre's spouting b#ll#cks on internationals!)

Back to the signing. Having read the article and from other stuff I've heard about Mike 'the dog' Broon, this is an excellent signing. I'm sure he'll help our crop of home grown talent as well as being an exciting performer on the pitch. I'd read (years ago) about his work with disability sports and was as impressed that it wasn't something he was promoting about himself but had been uncovered.

Which other Quins would we welcome?
