NSPCC / SPARKS receive DW donations.

Big Man - Big Cheque

On Sunday, in the hurling rain, on a trecherous pitch, half time saw a different kind of entertainment. To the massed amazement of those DWs sheltering under the stands, a number of DWs who have been politely referred to as "dignitaries" accompanied by Peter Scrivener were led out on to the sward.

DWs pay out the Charity Fund Balance

Two of their number were carrying rather large cheques: large in both size and amount.

In the photo above (with gratitude to Sportsbeat Images) Katherine Garrard from SPARKS and Edwina Fingleton-Smith from the NSPCC were presented with cheques by Odette Meddemman and Deb Brough. In the photo also are Nigel Meddemmen, "Sleepy" Peter Low and KevinTheB. Scrivs was there on behalf of Shawsie's Fund.

Both charities left the ground £2500 richer.

Tara Mallett from SPARKS later wrote: "On behalf of SPARKS may I pass on my thanks for your generous donation of £2500 including the funds raised at Simon Shaw’s Curry Night. We are very grateful to Simon and his committee for choosing SPARKS as a benefiting charity and would like to thank you all for your hard work and support. SPARK’s aim is to enable all babies to be born healthy and stay healthy. Statistically, 1 in 30 children will be born with a condition which may affect them for life. Our goal is to reduce this statistic by funding vital medical research into different areas affecting babies and children throughout the UK. Since 1991, SPARKS has funded nearly 175 medical projects in the UK, committing well over £13.5 million to tackle conditions as diverse as cerebral palsy, meningitis, the dangers of premature birth, spina bifida, childhood arthritis and cancers. Everything we do at SPARKS is down to individuals and groups like yourselves, who strive to use their own strengths to help others and for this we are extremely grateful to you. Without your support none of this is possible and the donation that you have generously given is helping SPARKS to be there for children and families who need us now and in the future. Once again, congratulations and thank you very much for making a difference."

Thanks to everyone involved in this, and for the roar (err.....) of encouragement that we received on Sunday!
