They search him here...

Tom Varndell has scored 80 tries in the Premiership throughout his career, 6 short of the current record. He’s topped the table three times, and so far this year he has scored 5 tries in four games. He is unarguably one of the best finishers in the Premiership and his defence was arguably the thing that stopped Wasps being relegated during the darkest of days not so long ago.
He is active online in support of the club, and even when the move to the Ricoh was announced he came across as both professional, and sympathetic to the fans – quite an achievement all things considered. He is one of the fastest sprinters in the squad, and always seems to know exactly where the line is. So why I ask is he not getting into the starting team?
He’s only started three times out of eight games, with one run off the bench (probably two by the time this is published). Those five tries would seem to suggest that form isn’t the issue so what is going on?
It’s been suggested that perhaps this is simply a strategy to look after his arm. He suffered a ruptured bicep – a potentially career ending injury – not once but twice, but if this really was the issue then you’d expect it to be common knowledge. If it was being done to protect his career then you’d expect people to know about it.
It has also been suggested that perhaps Sailosi Tagikakibau offers a little more physicality and strength in defence. That’s hard to argue with, but on the strength of this season if that was the reason to drop a winger it would be Wade sitting on the bench and not Varndell.
Another possibility that has been mooted is that he is being lined up for the England 7s team at the Olympics in 2016. This is certainly possible, he’s exactly the sort of player you’d want in a 7s team. Fast, good at reading the game, and almost always beats his man in a one on one. But if this is the reason then he isn’t going anywhere just yet, and he runs in tries for fun. Lets use him and get the points.
The only other possibility is that he has fallen out of favour with Dai Young for some reason. I really hope this isn’t the case. TV2 as he is affectionately known by those of us who remember when he signed for the club is a firm favourite. He is loyal, skilled, charismatic and really seems to care about the crowd.
Let’s hope it is nothing significant, and that he’s back starting again soon, because the reality is that he is the first name on the team-sheet for many of the fans, and him being sent to Coventry (you see what I did there?) is hurting a lot of people. He’s well on his way to being a club legend, and if he were to leave because of a personal issue a lot of people would struggle to support it.
What do you think the reason is?

He is certainly a fans favourite. Underlined by his commitment, engagement and positivity during our dark days.
A player of his quality could easily of found another club, rumours of a French club in the mix, but he decided to stay with us and re-sign for another two years. Of course, he was knocking on the England door at the time so that was also a factor in his decision.
So my take, is that he has been told he is well down the pecking order for England, I would suspect Strettle would get a recall before they went to Tom, and he has become disillusioned and quite fancies considering a move to the South of France for a career swansong and a pension top-up in sunnier climes. I wouldn't blame him.
Even a French move wouldnt answer why he's not being picked as that move isn't now and he isn't being kept out by a young player in development.
Have to say one of my fav squad members and sadly biggest under achievers given his talent...his face just never really fit an Intl level, no idea why, i reckon he'd have a trunk full of tries by now.
The only reason to drop a leaving player is if they're performing badly (like BV) or holding back their replacement's development. TV has 5 tries in 4 games. He's giving himself 100% on the pitch whether or not he looks like it!!
to me, TV2 epitomised awesome spirit during our previous financial difficulties - when some (and seemed many) were leaving or were contemplating leaving, he was the first who laid down the marker and committed to wasps - and for that I am grateful.
Did I not read somewhere that TV2 had said that he was no longer looking at a potential swan song in France but that he actually wanted to finish his career with Wasps or am I completely wrong? I think it was several months ago before his opportunities to play sadly diminished.
I agree with everything said but it's very simple for me. He is a major attacking weapon and I don't understand why we're not using him. Especially as we have little or no structured back play and are very reliant on scoring counter attack tries often from long range.
Since he signed for us he has been absolutely fantastic for this club.
On the pitch he has been exceptional, extremely unlucky not to get a call up to the England squad during the time he has been with us, and it's a real shame we didn't give him the finals to show just how good he is.
Off the pitch I would go as far to say he has been everything you want from a professional rugby player, obviously cares about the club he plays for, engages with the fans in multiple ways and give up his time for work in the community. He is a great example to every young rugby player on how to behave off the pitch, his nuturing of Christian Wade has been great to see.
We have been extremely to have had Tom Varndell play for us the past few years and I hope he returns to our starting line up sooner rather than later.
Hear hear. "That" tackle at Barf probably saved us when things were truly grim. A great player and I really hope he gets back in the side soon and stays for a few seasons to come.
Tagithacki could play from now until the end of the season and not score the try TV did against Saints. Like most others I am baffled by his non-appearances and would have him, along with Lauch, Hasks, and Mullan as one of the first names on the team-sheet every week. Tagi also looks like the ideal guy to have come off the bench being able to cover wing and centre, although I have to say I rate Will Helu higher than him, and TV above the both of them. Just don't get it.
Seconded, Waspie08. For me, he epitomises Wasps and all Wasps stands for, and is one of our all-time Greats - Wasps right through. I always felt that he was a moving force during those 2 dark years and kept morale going in the players. If he does go South I'll understand why, but - please, Tom - stay with us.
Regardless of whatever his future intentions may be, there is no other winger in the Prem I would have instead of Tom right now. He's quite simply one of the greatest finishers the English game has ever seen, his defence is underrated, and his all round contribution to the culture of the Club is immense. I agree with earlier comments that unless we wish to bring through one of the youngsters then there is no reason to not consider him. Tagi is a great player but TV2 is still a different class and even if he is off at the end of the season (7s or France) I'm confident his attitude would be to leave Wasps on a high having played his heart out until the very last game.
I really hope he's not off though as I'd love to see him take the league record for tries scored with us and cement his position as a Club legend by finishing his time with us.
Have just posted the following on Twitter
"Here are some comments from Wasps fans about you - epitomises Wasps and all we stand for, one of our all-time greats, ...great finisher, great example on & off the pitch. You have all our support, Tom. Come back soon and come back strong!
Even if I didn't agree with the reason I would probably feel much better if I understood why.
I just don't get it. Form says he should be on the pitch playing. Whilst I agree with all the comments about what a great bloke he is and how good he is off the pitch that doesn't justify playing him but his form and class do.
