Game Goes Ahead

By Buzzz
September 9 2022

Rugby will be given the opportunity to come together to mourn the passing of  Her Majesty after the RFU decided that games can go-ahead this weekend. There will be a one-minute silence before Gloucester and Wasps kick off at Kingsholm on Sunday and both teams will be wearing black armbands. It will be a sombre start to the season but a respectful and comforting one.

Both new signings - John Ryan and Kiran McDonald - will make their  debuts in a side which will be led by a fit again Joe Launchbury with Jack Willis back from the England training camp down under.

Some excitement too  about the pre-seaon form of full back Matteo Minozzi.

Gloucester haven't added many to their line-up during thessummer but look to be strengthening their pack  with the arrival of  No 8 Zach Mercer  from Montepllier.

Wasps: 1 Robin Hislop 2 Tom Cruse 3 John Ryan 4 Joe Launchbury (Capt.) 5 Kiran McDonald 6 Tom Willis 7  Brad Shields 8  Alfie Barbeary 9 Dan Robson 10 Charlie Atkinson 11 Josh Bassett 12 Burger Odendaal 13 Sam Spink 14 Zach Kibirige 15 Matteo Minozzi

Reps:   Dan Frost, Elliot Millar-Mills,  Biyi Alo,  Ben Morris, Jack Willis,  Will Porter,  Ryan Mills,  Ali Crossdale

Little worried about the front row match up but still a good looking Wasp side. Is Paolo injured ?

Happy enough with that side, although we desperately need one of our injured Looseheads back. Plus I always prefer Tom at 8. Maybe him and Alfie will swap according to whether it’s attacking or defensive scrums. Hopeful MM can nail down the 15 shirt.

Correct, they're players that have come through the ranks at Hartpury/Gloucester.

Good first half but twenty point leads are squeaky bum time for Wasps supporters. London Irish is still fresh in the memory

Disgraceful.

Never underestimate Wasps' ability to squander a seemingly unassailable lead. No other team in the premiership commits rugby hari kari like we do.

When you allow your defence coach to be lent to another team, you deserve that kind of defensive performance.

Got what we deserved. Cannot grumble about the result because it was well earnt by us. There are positives from the game, MacDonald, Atkinson, Odendaal and a few others stood up. But we cannot hide from the drop off in performance when LRZ ran that try in. Premiership players and teams cannot do that and expect to be competitive.

LRZ must have watched Arudell against us last season.

Hands up who thought we would win at HT.
I didn't, and I expect most here did not.

We have more chance if winning playing pants for 60 mins and going 20 down than we do playing well and going 25 up.

On a positive note, Charlie looked lively and the 3 new signings also played well. Before KO I’d guess a LBP at Kingsholm would have been not the end of the world BUT 21 points up…!
