After all the conjecture of recent weeks it was to Wasps eternal credit that they came out of the blocks at Kingsholm fighting. They were magnificent in the first half scoring 21 unanswered points - then it all went wrong. Gloucester 27-Wasps 21.
They even overcame yet another injury to Matteo Minozzi to look like world beaters in the first 40.
Alfie Barbeary went over but the TMO spotted a debatable obstruction as he peeled off . It didn't matter as Charlie Atkinson scored shortly after courtesy of an excellent dummy.
John Ryan set up the next one for Brad Shields with a great break as Wasps ran the ball at every opportunity.
It was no surprise when Burger Odendaal celebrated his debut by slicing through the cover.
The second half started the same way with Wasps attacking in the Gloucester 22 . A try looked on but the ball was spilled and Louis Rees-Zammit sprinted the length of the pitch just beating Ali Crossdale who desperately tried to catch him and nearly did.
A game changing try? Sure was.
Lee Blackwell's comments.
"I thought first half we were pretty clinical, our discipline was second to none and we looked in full control - we controlled everything. Second half, complete opposite.
"There were a lot of things we have worked really hard on and I thought there were some pleasing aspects in it. We've not walked away with the win but we have walked away with a point.
"For the club, after the negativity that's been around the last three or four months, it would've been great to reward the support we've had from our supporters."

Having just watched it, thank The Rugby Gods there weren't 3 halves !
It seemed to me that the forward influence, and hence good ball for the backs, declined substantially when he left the field.
But why was Robson taken off? My mates and I couldn't believe that decision. He was bossing the game so well.
I think our bench was stronger and had a big impact.
Predictably Zamm was the change maker. It was remarkable he scored that try, as his laces came undone on his left boot, and that slowed him down.

Just like to say what a great bunch of fans you have at G!oucester Rugby - we had help with directions to the ground from some friendly home supporters and had a nice chat with a fellow Welsh rugby fan whose Uncle, it turned out, taught my wife in school in Wales , some 50 years ago !! Seated by some season ticket holders we engaged in some mid-match chat ,real nice people,very partisan , but I love that about Rugby; surrounded by opposition fans , we never feel intimidated or inclined to become less vocal in support of our favourites -" hate" on the "enemy" for eighty minutes , then best of friends !! Its family friendly and it's , collectively, "OUR game" , fans of all clubs united in our love for this great game , long may it continue !! Footnote- those home supporters must have been well impressed when we stood to applaud Louis' magnificent effort in the second half which heralded the turn about in fortunes of both teams _(LRZ so glad he,s Welsh !!) As someone who has Welsh heritage, I have to agree with you re LRZ !
