Premiership Cup Tonight

Cruse Try Scorer
By Buzzter
September 20 2022

Let's hope the squad which kicks off the Premiership Cup tonight against Falcons (Tuesday 7.45 Tickets only a tenner) can kickstart the Wasps' season after two league defeats..

Will Haydon-Wood gets his first start at fly-half tonight and he'll be alongside Francois Hougaard in what looks like a decent line-up.

Wasps v Falcons: 1 Zac Nearchou 2 Gabriel Oghre (Capt) 3 Elliot Millar-Mills 4  Cam Dodson 5 Theo Vukasinovic 6 Fyn Brown 7  Kieran Curran 8 Greg Fisilau 9      Francois Hougaard 10 Will Haydon-Wood 11  Luke Mehson  12 Will Simonds 13 Reikiti Maasi-White  14 Immanuel Feyi-Waboso  15 Olly Hartley .

Replacements 16 Michael Van Vuuren  17  Archie McArthur 18 Robin Hardwick `19 Alfie Bell 20 James Tunney 21 Harry Craven 22 Ollie Dawkins 23 Billy Kucera.

The weekend home defeat by Bristol was not expected. Wasps only had a Tom Cruse try to enjoy as they went down 24-8 - although it may have been different if  a Joe Launchbury effort hadn't been ruled out for a forward pass.

Lee Blackwell' media comments after the game:

"It wasn't like we looked clueless at times, we were creating opportunities.  We just made far too many mistakes with the ball. I'm constantly saying we've got to improve our skill set and that's what we want from Wasps players.

"I think if you'd seen us in pre-season, I saw us heading in the right direction in terms of that. I think it's a bad day in the office but we have got to be constantly working on that and that is the direction we are going in. W are working really hard on our skills and we've got to work even harder."

Will be an interesting team selection with a few injuries about and a few out on loan with Champ clubs.

Guessing that Millar-Mills will start at LHP, maybe get someone in on loan as backup? Unless one of the Academy lads step up.

Hopefully Corbin Thunder (top name!) might get a go at Hooker.

Second row, maybe Vukasinovic plus an Academy lock?

I'd guess we'll see Hayden-Wood start at 10, unless Umaga is ready (might ease him back in nicely).

Possibly more interesting who isn’t playing - both Paolo and Jacob aren’t included but as far as I’m aware are fit. Can we expect to see them both in Friday’s 23?

Lee quoted today that both are in contention.

Let's hope some of the players are watching - it might remind them that the aim is to win (i.e. score more than the opposition).(Sm100)

Still need to watch ourselves, 35 -7 on 63 mins and it finishes 35 - 21. We have got to learn how to kill these games off. Good result for the Bee team though ;-)
