As the weather gets warmer our minds turn to the most special weekend of the calendar - Fat Blokes Sevens. Known as a drinking festival with a rugby habit, Fat Blokes has a devoted and international following. If you've not experienced this weekend of mayhem then I can't recommend it highly enough. This year's event is getting closer (16th - 18th July) and we're all starting to get a bit excited.
The male London Irish representatives at Fat Blokes Rugby Sevens are known as the Flatulent Fairies - their shirt of pink and green can be spotted (very easily) at any London Irish event (except the black ties ones, obviously). If you've wanted to know who they were and how you can get your hands on a shirt read on.
It is my honour this year to captain the Fairies, a responsibility I don't take lightly. There are some serious heavyweight previous captains (as well as Rich H who appears to be immune to pie) and I have some massive shoes to fill (Eek's clown ones are probably the largest). I cannot, however, do this alone and I shall need many team-mates to take on the mammoth rugby task ahead.
If you are male and over 18 you are qualified. There's no upper age-limit and you don't need to have played rugby (or Sevens) before to join-in. Before I played for the Fairies a few years ago I'd never played contact-rugby before so it is possible. We've had many first-timers play - be aware, though, this is contact rugby, you can get injured (insurance is probably a good idea - we'll sort that out together closer to the weekend) and you need to be able to move your own body-weight, not quickly mind, that's cheating!
If you think you'd like to join-in please email me at griff@londonirish.org. If you have questions ask away (on the Message Board if you like, there are many Fairies here). If you are signing-up let me know how much rugby you've played (and when it was) so I can have some idea of what level we're all at - if you've an idea of where you can play in a sevens team (forward, back or scrum-half) then let me know that too.
This year you do not HAVE to buy the shirt to play (although you will need to borrow one if you haven't got one already) - there will be match-fees to cover our entrance into the competition (and donation to the charities). These will be less than £20 - details when I know how many we've got playing.
The new shirt, though, is quite something and, without further ado, here it is:

The shirts for the playing kit have arrived and they are fantastic so here is what you need to do in order to buy one (or more) of your very own!!
The collar is in the style of an ‘Adidas’ shirt rather like the latest British Lions shirt.
1. Choose your size (suggest you order a size up from normal) in inches
36,38,40,42,44,46,48,50
2. Add any name or number or both at no extra cost but note that Dave will process what YOU write and will not have time to check the spelling etc!!
3. Email Dave Marsh (cheffy) at fairiesshirts@hotmail.co.uk for the bank account details, he asks if you are paying electronically that you use your name as a reference + FF Shirt.
4 Dave will then Email you the details and an address to send any cheques to, on receipt of this email then give me all the relevant info for your order and he will process accordingly.
5 Cost per shirt is £34 and there is a postage option if required which will cost £3.50 per shirt and will be sent 1st Class Signed for (UK Only) If you require this option then don’t forget the required delivery address please!!
Airmail options are available please ask for details of cost etc

Speaking as an interested party, are they going to be of the spray on material, or sensibly fitting stuf (NB the term 'Stuff' refers to material in Mid English, which was absorbant and generous!

They are printed but they will be sensibly proportioned even if you do have to buy a slightly bigger shirt than normal.
Some samples of various sizes will be around next weekend for all to look at.......And on Sunday after the LISC do at the Hilton.

Ordering details will be posted shortly......the samples didn't arrive in time for yesterdays game but I will get them this week and report back on how the sizing comes up ie whether or not you need to order a size up from usual etc.

Just measure yourself in inches and see how YOU compare to the sizes!!
When you know what size chest you have then see what sizes there are and order!!
The smallest is the 36" at the moment but smaller may be available just waiting on a call!!

If the correalation between how big we are & the actual sizes of the shirts is so accruate why do you recommend we go a size or two up?

I suggested a size up for a bit of comfort since they are subliminated shirts not cotton or poly cotton (So will not shrink or stretch) and to allow for the wearing of a shirt underneath in cold weather.

They really are rather lovely and judging on feedback from the Touch Fairies (Who lost BTW) they are a lot better and wearable than expected........even if it will frighten off small children!!

Yes, we've now seen the merchandise and THEY'RE VERY PINK! The fabric isn't like the Paddy's day shirts, much more wearable - heavier and the inside has a comfortable lining. Proper modern rugby shirts.
I'm going for 2 sizes more than I would normally as they are quite short in the body (and so your gut pulls the shirt up over your waist - if you have one of course). Your milage may vary.

But this is the question - can you have a different number on the arm to the back of the shirt, and is there a limit on numbers and letters (what happens if you've got a really long name?)

Have a long name? Eat more pies, fit into a larger shirt, more space for name*.
Have a long number? Order in long sleeved.

I have heard back from Akuma as follows:
The number is the same on the sleeve as the back due to the printing process ie cannot go through twice.
Numbers are limited to two digits
Letters within reason, they reserve the right to abbreviate as required!!
