Rugby Legends - April 9th 2011

Saturday April 9th is set to be a seminal day in our season and in the life of our great club. Firstly, the Wild Geese will play Beckenham in their last home game of the season. Secondly there will be a Rugby Legends game played on behalf of injured ex-LI amateur Neil Murphy - John O'Driscoll will return to play for the first time since 1986! If you can make it get along and support a great event.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Saturday April 9th is set to be a seminal day in our season and in the life of our great club. Firstly, the Wild Geese will play Beckenham in their last home game of the season. For those of you unfamiliar with the Geese, this is the First XV of the Amateur Club and they currently sit second in London Division 1. Retaining that place will see them into a play off for promotion to National League 3 which would see us as the only truly amateur club in that division and see us on target for sustaining a position at that level of the English League structure for the forseeable future. As such, I would urge you to come and support the boys. Believe me when I say you will be really surprised by the quality of rugby on show.
But there is another reason for attending that day. Rugby in general and London Irish especially, is known for not leaving its wounded behind. Neil Murphy, a great centre for the Club in the 1980's suffered severe brain damage in 2008 which now leaves him struggling to walk unaided although still able to give us his opinion on most matters, as he always did. Neil needs our assistance to raise funds for his care.
On April 9th, Neil has brought together some of the Legends of the English and Irish game; Huw Davies, Rob Henderson and Peter Winterbottom will pull on a shirt once again but above all the great John O Driscoll will return to the fray. This will be a special occassion and one where old friends can come togather, have a few pints, tell a few stories and maybe bid for an auction prize to help Neil.
Please find time to come. bring your families along to support the Geese and Neil.
