Chicken Run, Fowl Play and The Pecking Order

It is time to go to Leicester again. I have been there before when we played them in the semi final, that was quite a long time ago and I was very small so I don’t really remember much about it. There are some London Irish supporters who would probably say they wish that they could not remember it too!

LI v Tigers

We are going on the coach so that is great we can sing, eat, drink and chat to people on the way. We got the back seat so I can sit in the middle between Dobbin and Mummy; we are looking after all the food.

BEFORE THE MATCH:

Leicester is not like Sarries we don’t have any friends there and none of their players are our favourites, we did like Martin Corry; he was very nice. Dobbin says Leicester supporters seem to be a bit grumpy. I wonder why? They should be happy because they win nearly all the time, perhaps they get a bit bored with winning all the time and being called the Cheaters, it can’t be that much fun. Hopefully today we will meet some nice ones and then we’ll have some new friends. Dobbin might be a bit grumpy about Leicester because something nasty happened to Michael there once when he let Tom Varndell get a try. Dobbin says it was Topsy’s fault because he didn’t tell Michael that Tom was coming but we all know what Dobbin is like when it comes to Michael!

I am very happy because TOM is playing today, I love Tom he is my absolute favourite player ever. I had a lovely time at Tadley Rugby club watching the boys training, Tom was teaching me how to kick the ball over the posts.
Delon is not playing because he has been naughty again and he hit That Man. Poor Delon he is always in trouble but he really mustn’t hit and shout at people. I think the judge was a bit mean to stop him playing; it might be better if his Dad stopped his pocket money for the whole of the summer holidays.
I have named my two chickens after Delon and Tom and they are just like them but TOM the chicken can’t kick rugby balls like our Tom and she hasn’t laid an egg yet.

It would be very nice if we could beat Leicester today not only for us but it could help our Sarrie friends finish top of the table, we like Sarries and we need to be nice to them because they could help us by beating those Quins today. I don’t really understand all what we have to do or other people have to do for us to get into the Heineken Cup but I do know it is quite important. It is all very complicated but Jon r43 will tell us exactly what is going on.

THE MATCH:

I did nearly all the notes all by myself today there are only one or two bits from Mummy and Dobbin and they are mostly the silly bits.

Irish come on the pitch; Fluffy Thorpe has some nice pink boots.
Stupid music and Leicester Tigers come on.
At 40 match starts.
Saggywaggie (Tuilagi) gets the ball, good tackle Adam. Penalty Tigers, Toby gets it 3 - 0
Good run Tom, Poppy (Dodge) gets it, ball out, line out. Don’t know what happened.
Lots of Skrum bits other end.
Maps dumps Saggywaggie and a very good kick from Dan. Good tackle JJ, good kick Dodge.
Dodge squawks and flaps his arms a lot, a bit like my chickens.
Penalty Irish, Mum and Dobbin go mad; Tom gets it through the posts 3 - 3.
Maps falls over and Mum find Bobs scrumcap we give it to Molly Malone to give back to Bob.
Go Topsy!!!
Goes all the way, try Irish.
Tom kicks it out right over the roof. 3 –10
Fluffy Thorpe dives in, wow.
Big Tigers boy crying. Gets back up.
Skrum.

Good news, Sarries winning at Quins.

Bob does not need his hat because he has got a bandage on his head.
Tiger try, Toby misses. 8-10
Like number 13 Tigers green boots, saw big Tiger boy’s pants when he changed his shorts.
Good catch Tom, great bit Tom and Adam.
“Disgusting” high tackle on Dan, bad referee didn’t do anything about it.
Gave Tom a kick for something else; Tom gets it again, 8 –13
Dodge slaps someone’s bottom, Tiger fast runner, number 13.
Line out, skrum, more skrum bits other end.
Ball out, nice little kick from Tom.
Well-done Maps.
JJ got big Tiger boy Saggywaggie down.
10 Minutes to half time.
Tigers get penalty, Toby misses, I am starting to like Toby a bit.
Bad bit other end up corner so I can’t see.
Dan kicks it out.
JJ got Tiger boy down again.
MY LOVELY TOM stopped Tigers getting a try!!! Excellent Tom.
Topsy kicked ball out, big pile in the middle. Maps and Tiger on the floor.
Lots of singing, Fields of Athenry.
Jamie got “sqwashed” by Tiger.
Big Tiger dropped it.
Fluffy Thorpe’s feathers get ruffled a bit.

HALF TIME. 8 –13 well done Irish.

At 40 again, boys out. Quite high tackle by Saggywaggie on JJ, ball out by Dan.
Little jump by Dodge, Dan gets Scaggywaggie.
Mum would like to be a bit of Topsy’s blue tape; we wonder what it is for?
Skrum.
No nice dancing like Gavin Henson at Sarries to watch. Maps dumps a Tiger.
34 Minutes – Alex on Fann off.
Whit woo, Jeremy Staunton warming up near us. We do like him because he used to play for Irish and is very handsome.
Nasty Tiger number 6 pushed Irish, good dump Clarke. Go Topsy, all the way again, Dobbin screams and shouts and goes a bit mad again. Mum and Dobbin try to sing but it not a very nice noise.
Tom kick and he gets it 8 –20.
Mini fight, two Tigers and Jamie.
David does something naughty and everyone shouts “off” but the referee does not listen. That’s good.
Hefalump on Fluffy Thorpe off.
Bad bits this end.
Tom’s got red shoes on now.
Dodge squawks a lot, boring bit this end so we have a look at Justin’s (The Legend) nice legs.
Lots of squawking and flapping from Dodge hope he is not going to lay an egg.
Tiger’s supporters getting cross and Tiger 15 being weird doing a funny dance.
We get the ball.
Bob and Clarke off Maps and good looking Gary on. Nasty Tiger gets my lovely Tom.
Go Hefalump, good bit other end. Very close in the corner but I can’t really see.
Tom, kick, yes!!!!!! 8 –23

Good news, Sarries winning 6 –16 at Quins.

Dobbin feels sick and Mummy is holding her head they want it to finish now.
David off James on.
Bad skrummy bit, Toby kicks corner and another one, they get a try.
Toby misses kick.
13 -23
10 minutes to go starts raining.
Good tackle Tom, Elvis on, JJ off.
Good Max and Alex bit.

Oh no they get a try. And Toby gets this one 20 –23, hang on boys, just hang on. 6 minutes 23 seconds to go. Bob is going nuts on the sideline.
Down other end, good, then they go and get another try. Mummy and Dobbin look very fed up and I think they might have said some bad words.
Toby misses because Topsy jumps in the way and hits the ball, I bet that hurt his hand. Well-done Topsy. 25 –23 Maps off, Molly Malone on. Go Tom, go Topsy, well done Molly, Dodge off Darren on.
1 minutes 19 seconds to go. They did it again, Saggwaggie did it for them. Toby gets it over 32 – 23.

I am gutted for our boys they could have won that one. I expect the Tigers supporters will be fed up because they have been boring and won again.
Sarries won at Quins for us so Jon says we will be in the Heineken Cup.
Good old Sarries it is just a shame we could not beat Tigers for them. This means Tigers are top of the table and Sarries are second. We will finish 6th which is quite good because London Irish do not have lots of money and lots of players like some other teams and we are above Quins which is the most important thing.

AFTER THE MATCH:

The boys walked round and we all clap and cheer at them because they tried so hard and we love them. Richard winked at Dobbin so that cheered her up a bit. Then Dan sat down and took his boots off, he came over and gave them to Dan r43 that made him happy. A bit later he came back and gave another boy (Declan) a pair of boots, what a nice man.

We went to see the boys but they were a bit busy because there was another match going to happen. Mr Catt did give Dobbin a kiss, so by now she was very happy and Mummy made friends with some nice boys who had made London Irish shirts and put names and numbers on them.

I was sad because I did not get chance to see Tom because we had to go and get the coach but I know I will see him next season and I have always got my very own TOM in the chicken house in the garden.

Now it is time to say goodbye to some of our lovely boys. Goodbye to Maps and Elvis who have been wonderful players for us and to George. I think Dobbin and Lindy r43 will be crying lots about George, they think he is very nice and handsome and he gives them big hugs. Mummy and Dobbin are both upset that Ryan is going, he always makes them laugh and he bought them a drink at The Stoop once when they went to see “The Legend” Justin play. We are sad that Molly Malone is going because he is a really nice man and very friendly. We are looking forward to meeting some new players next season especially Champagne Happy. I like him because he reminds me a bit of my best friend Riki and he has a pretty name.

Great report again Molly, well done on taking all those notes (Was it about 10 pages) and still knowing what is going on all the way through.

It was just like being there with Mum and Great Aunt Dobbin again!!

Just in case anyone from Judge Blacket's team is reading this " a dump" is code for a high quality perfectly legal tackle and not anything that might lead to a citing!

Great stuff Molly.... thank you for being so nice about Sarries because we like you too....
I must admit I'm not terribly fond of Saggiewaggie either. Looks a bit scary to me and has a bad habit of scoring tries with only a few minutes to go. I'm sure that Champagne Happy is looking forward to being your friend and you are right - it is a lovely name. He seems to have a smiley face, so it probably suits him.
My daughter (who is now very old - 13!)used to be a bit scared of one of our players because he is very tall and has very ginger hair. She used to call him 'Hug' - in fact she still does. I think he quite likes it actually.
Well done!

What a lovely and clever girl you are Molly ! A very good report !

It is true a LOT of we Tigers fans are very grumpy. Some of us old uns seem to think that we have a God given right to win every game and every trophy, and that if we don't we must be rubbish. Truth is MOST teams are now VERY good, like London Irish, and games are much harder to win than they used to be in the olden days!

I look forward to reading your reports from european games next season Molly ! Have a lovely summer !

ps. saggywaggy is a lovely, quiet, funny man off the pitch. He is just a T-Rex when he is playing smiling smiley

How did you know which one was TOM and which one was DELON?

Did the lovely red feathers give it away?
