Hoskins the Wallaby

To keep the site alive we need stories - this is just a fact. As we went offline again Craic legend Alec W (again) came up with a story and it's a damn fine, feel-good story. Well done Ollie, well deserved, tear it up on Saturday!

Well, what a lovely story for Ollie Hoskins! Let go by Western Force and then told he wasn’t good enough by his childhood club, Perth Spirit … makes his way to LI and works his erse off for several years, meets his wife over here, gets married this summer and this week gets a message from an old team mate, Petrus du Plessis (now scrum coach for the Wallabies) saying to stand by, cos he might be needed… Fast forward a day or two and Ollie is in the 23 for the game on Saturday!

Annabel, one of my colleagues, has been quietly going tornado in the background, because she is from WA and her family and Ollie’s are close; her brother is particularly close to Ollie and his two brothers… So she had a good blub when she saw this, which pretty much shows you what kind of a bloke Ollie is: https://twitter.com/wallabies/status/1458925659628224512?s=20: the moment, he was told he was in the squad for the England game…

Apparently, his dad is on his way to the UK to be at Heathrow at 0600 and at Twickenham for the game, via the pub! https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sport/rugby-union/amazing-and-surreal-emotional-dad-s-london-dash-to-see-son-s-shock-wallabies-debut-20211112-p598gy.html?ref=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=rss_feed

I will be watching the game and fervently hoping that Ollie gets off the bench and has a stormer, though in a losing cause, I hope…! Kick off is at 1730 GMT and the game is available on Amazon Prime, or one of those dodgy sports streams that no-one could possible condone… Better still, head over to the pub and watch it with some mates – I intend to…!

It couldn’t happen to a nicer bloke and let’s hope that it is not a one-off…!

Thanks Alec W. I shall be watching from the south stand, so should have a good view of any scrums he’s in. Good luck, but not too much luck Ollie.

Not sure whether to wear my white rugby shirt or the green rugby shirt?

Club over country for me all day long. This Englishman will be cheering for the Aussies and Ollie, although I suspect they’ll be done by some poor decisions as they always seem to be in the autumn internationals

And James O’Connor for the Aussies - still can’t believe we saw him play for us!!

Our white away shirt should fit the bill, surely.(Sm63)

Currently our longest serving player, and there's not a player in the club I'd be more happy for than Ollie. Every time he steps on the pitch in green you can see the sheer effort and when it comes to our ridiculous comebacks, there's always one man in particular putting in a ridiculous shift.

No question of split loyalties for me Ollie > England > Australia.

Ollie Hoskins, Test Wallaby. Don't think there's a better impact sub prop in the Prem, and he'll smash it.

Hope Ollie gets on, possibly for a winning side, Eddie has compromised the team again to get Owen Farrel a place by putting a world class centre on the wing. Needless to say Farrel kicking away possession

Farrell is a. complete embarrassment to rugby.

He is utterly useless at 12, a complete waste of a player, and the sooner that Eddie his admirer In chief, is dispatched to the knackers yard, the better.

That said, our forwards at 5m line outs have been completely lamentable.

This is unbelievably poor from England. We should be 15 pts ahead. FFS.

Shambolic line out saved by Oz indiscipline.

This is utterly dreadful from England.

Curry and Farrell are both officially stupid and should be sacked. Every time it gets to Farrell it gets constipated.

Dombrandt has been our best attacker so why take him off?

Ollie did ok, but the writing was on the wall for Australia, when Farrel limped off to strengthen England.

Happy for Ollie, but glad he was on the losing team ...

It's great to see that dreams do come true, and it couldn't happen to a better person than Ollie!
