Over a month after their publication there is still fallout from the publication of the new shirt photographs. Things get somewhat heated on the messageboard.

An Ed’s Diary – 21st July 2003

I return from a week away to find the Exile Files has arrived. The article I had submitted on Operation Rose has been edited to remove a reference to the site and a disclaimer stating that the views in the article are personal is put at the end. This annoys me somewhat but as there is nothing I can do about it I decide it is best not to complain. At this moment in time I’m inclined not to submit anything further in future.

LI start pre-selling the new shirts from the official site. They are using the picture from the Canterbury catalogue, exactly the same one they had asked me to remove on the grounds that it ‘does not do justice to the shirt’. I have to smile.

Email arrives from Dublinannette with her twenty questions. She also tells me that she has resigned from the committee. I wonder how and when this news will be made public.

The minutes of a LISC/LIRC meeting arrive and are duly posted. These contain a line whereby the LISC has apologised to the club about ‘Misinformation’ over the new shirts. It’s pretty obvious that this is a reference to the publication of the shirt design so I post on the thread. After a short exchange where I challenge the use of the word misinformation, Ken E. argues that the pre-publication of the shirt photos has caused commercial damage and is bad for both the club and it’s supporters. This I do not accept and counter that the only damage that has been done is to bruise a few egos.

During the course of one afternoon about 30 posts are added to the thread, most of them agreeing with my position. In one of them Mrs Goz posts, ‘Ken, no offline berating’, this makes me think that emails have been doing the rounds of the LISC committee. True enough late in the afternoon a new thread is started by PGT entitled ‘New Shirts – an alternative view’. This is the sort of posts that Patrick, with his LISC chairman hat on, specialises in. Ten paragraphs, saying next to nothing and offending nobody. Such was the impact of this missive the thread rapidly becomes a discussion about 60’s television sitcoms.

The fixture list is released. It is pretty well identical to the one I took down over a month ago after being advised that there were ‘Substantial changes’. Subtel is getting word through of more changes, perhaps best wait until things settle down before making further corrections to our list. In the Euro Shield we draw Montauban, away fixture to be played 5/6 December. This pisses me off mightily as I know I am in Belfast that weekend. No tour for me this Autumn.

Due to some technical problems I haven’t been able to update the messageboard header, hence the quote, for four days now. This is irritating but not serious, as I write the Sunbury Centre has been dead for over two weeks. John will probably fix this when he gets back from holiday next week.

The ‘Mornington Crescent’ thread has died, ‘Msg. LISC Committee’ is limping along but doesn’t look like it has much life left in it. Kealey’s ‘Worst ever beer’ thread continues to amuse, it’s now over 160 posts.
