Following the success of last year's Fatbloke 7s tournement at Henley the Wobbly Ones return in a festival of fun with a change of venue.
THE 2004 FAT BLOKE SEVENS
Saturday 24th July at Reading Abbey Rugby Club sees this years 'Fat Bloke Sevens' tournament take place, organised by the Flatulent Fairies and hosted this year by Reading Abbey RFC.
The first match will be at 11am and the teams promise to be heavyweight, unfit and unskilled - all the attributes not normally associated with sevens rugby.
This annual event is organised by the Flatulent Fairies, a rugby team made up of London Irish fans who play regularly for charity. The event has proved so popular that other clubs are now introducing the concept of 'Fat Bloke Sevens'.
"It's a lot of fun watching people that should know better, being too old, too fat or too unskilled, trying to play a sport designed for very athletic young fit and talented players" said this years tournament organiser, Martyn Cooper. "Spectators can get bored watching 'proper' sevens as the standard is so high and it becomes monotonous. What people enjoy from the Fat Blokes is the amount of mistakes made and the spirit in which the game is played. Everyone enjoys themselves, whether playing or watching."
Refreshments will be available throughout the day, with a BBQ and Hogroast alongside a bar.
The tournament will end with the post tournament party with live music and disco going on until late. Camping is available if requested prior to the event.
Admission is free and profits from the teams taking part, the bar takings and program sales will be going towards the three nominated charities for this year, Samaritans, Jarrod Cunningham Salsa fund and Berkshire Air Ambulance.
