An Eds Diary - 17th December 2003

December sees the first of our European games for the season. The growth in numbers travelling to such games is very encouraging indeed.

An Ed’s diary – 17th December 2003

Montauban 30 – 26 London Irish followed by London Irish 36 – 24 Montauban. By all accounts we had a traveling contingent of over 150. When you realize that for the previous PPS games we played two years ago in Valladolid and Pau the traveling contingent was around 50 on both occasions this represents remarkable growth. Word is spreading. Due to severe flooding in France the match was delayed from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon, some of our contingent, having booked to travel back on Sunday morning and being unable to change flights missed the game.

Those who booked their travel through LISC were staying in Toulouse, traveling to and from Montauban by coach. Many of those who had made their own arrangements stayed in Montauban. From the reports that have filtered back, those who were in Montauban had the better trip. Perhaps Tony and the LISC made the wrong call here. Having said that, every single remark about the trip has been positive. By all accounts the Montauban supporters both at home and away were a great bunch. I real regret having missed this tour. For the next round in January we’ve drawn Narbonne, with a trip to Paris already booked for that month it looks like I’ll be seeing a lot of France then.

JoeV and ‘Dave’ have announced their engagement. Our most recent wedding was Donaghadee and Carol in September but this is the first time I’m aware of that two people who have met either directly or indirectly through the site have decided to tie the knot. Congratulations to the pair of them.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve published two attempts at humour, One called ‘Mid-term report’ the other ‘HSC-RIP’ both have been generally well received. I do find it odd that at times, with the right idea in my head, I can rattle off such a story in half an hour, others sometimes take ages. If nothing else, one thing being involved with the site has done, it has taught me great respect for those who write for a living, it can be very hard work indeed.
