London Irish supporters are well known for their generous charity support. Here a regular of The Craic explains the resons for his big venture. Wish him well and dig deep for a fantastic cause.

As some of you are aware, my wife Janet, aka The Vampire Slayer, was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2002. Thankfully, after treatment, she is now clear of the disease. As you can imagine, this was a very traumatic time for our family and I know of several other members of the London Irish “family” who have experienced similar challenges.

During the period of Janet’s illness, I felt totally inadequate in as much as this was a problem that I couldn’t personally “fix”. As a result of this I decided that I would do something to try in a small way to give something back to breast cancer care, to try to prevent other families having to go through what we did.

To achieve this aim, I have committed myself to a 14 day trek in the Himalayas to the home of the Dalai Lama. I fly out to Delhi on March 6th 2005 and then take a sleeper train to Dharamsala where I will hopefully have an audience with His Holiness. After this it will be down to the serious business of trekking at high altitude, which should be something of a challenge for me. I have already started serious training for the expedition both in the local gym and on the North Downs and intend to be as fit as I possibly can be by March.

I have paid for the cost of the expedition and all money that I raise through pledges will go directly to the Breast Cancer Campaign. I would be immensely grateful for any support that you can give me. We shall be at the game on the 27th with sponsor forms or you can make pledges on The Craic message board.
