London Irish Supporters' Club
Report of LISC Meeting
11th January 2005
Here are the main points from our first meeting of 2005
Beyond the Magic Figure
In the month since our last meeting we have increased LISC membership from 418 to 490 paid up members. 16 joined to benefit from the subsidised coach travel. The remainder came from chasing up lapsed members. We still have exclusive events such as “Meet the Coaches” coming up (see below) and we will continue to chase a few well known names that are still to renew. It is forecast that by the next meeting we shall be well above the magic 500 figure for long term members. Also, it would assist us if later in the year when reminded as many people as possible could pay by Standing Order.
Tsunami - LISC gives its support
The £500 donation made by the LISC to Worcester Supporters at our away game for their Tsunami collection was extremely well received and continued to forge excellent relations with that Club and the WWSC. For those wishing to assist the cause further it is noted that Digger is looking for running companions on 6th March 2005 in the Reading Half Marathon!
7/11 Eve of 6 Nations Dinner & LISC Dinner Dance
LISC members are reminded that they receive preferential booking for the 7/11 eve of 6 Nations dinner on 4th February 2005. As the LISC agreed to this date replacing the annual dinner dance the LISC Committee are now looking at dates and venues for a LISC Summer Dinner Dance. It is likely to be in June 2005. As soon as details are finalised it will be well publicised.
Paddy’s Day Exile Files
A special Paddy’s Day edition of the Exile Files is being prepared. It will contain exclusive interviews and special articles along with the usual news features and diary items. If anybody feels inclined to contribute please don’t be shy. E mail your contributions to Catherine Sweeney on the Contacts page at www.lisc.org.uk .
Meet the Coaches
Tuesday evening 18th January 2005 at Sunbury. An exclusive event for members only although if you wish to attend and you are not a member bring along a tenner and join on the night.
For those of you who thought this headline related to the subsidised coaches on New Years Day not only do we apologise for that but we offer our sincere apologies to those who had to tolerate the breakdown on the way home. We shall do all within our control to ensure that better service is provided on your behalf in future.
New Date for Quiz Night
Following the great success of our Quiz Night in November at the Irish Centre in Reading we have fixed the date for the next one on Wednesday 9th March 2005 at Sunbury. There is serious competition out there now, not least from the players’ team so book early once the official notice is put up.
Planning Ahead for Next Year, Sir?
Thanks to all who attended the inaugural LISC Xmas Party – a good time was had by all. Feedback has revealed, however, that it clashed with many an office party and other Xmas bashes. Consequently, we are to wait for the fixture list for 2005/2006 but are considering a mid January party – particularly if there is a dearth of home games in the New Year once again. Any feedback from LISC members gratefully received.
It’s Your Club – Constitution and AGM
As promised previously work is to start in the New Year upon re drafting the LISC constitution. The Committee is well aware of the promises at the AGM that we will consult members upon any such changes prior to completing the proposed draft for approval. Two well known message board contributors have already provided their ideas and given Father Ted plenty to think about late into the night. We don’t want to overburden the wretched priest but if anyone has any views email the chap (Vice Chairman) in the LISC website contacts page. We are also able to confirm that the date for the next AGM has been fixed for Thursday 22nd September 2005 – venue tbc. Website
Our immense thanks go to Paul Warrender (SubTel) for continuing to host and update our website. He has willing assistants in Tjobe Andrews and Griff help in the New Year if required as we continue to bring it up to date and offer more variety – not least online merchandising.
A belated Happy New Year!!!!
