Whilst out on Saturday you may be accosted by a small, green-clad person. No, 'tis not the leprechauns over for an extension of St Patrick's day, Patrick Tahany takes up the story...

The Under 12's tour is the latest in a long line of annual Easter tours that London Irish Amateur RFC partake in. Essentially it marks the transition from mini's to youth rugby, the players being presented with their club ties at an end of tour gala dinner. Upon their return from tour the Under 12's finish their careers in mini rugby with the Surrey 'A' and 'B' championships and our own mini's festival at the end of April.

So who are the Under 12's: it is fair to say that they have been one of the most successful mini/midi squads to come out of London Irish - a club that has been providing mini rugby facilities since 1979. To date this squad has won 26 tournaments at all levels and age groups, including the prestigious Surrey County Championship for the last three years (they were also runners up at U8). They have represented the Club over 400 times, winning 75% of all their games - a remarkable record and one that hopefully you will feel deserves your support on Saturday.

This years Easter Tour departs on Good Friday and entails a triangular fixture with Blackrock and Greystones, a 12 team tournament at De La Salle Palmerston (our very generous main tour hosts) and culminates in another triangular fixture Clontarf and Old Belvedere. Plenty of rugby to be played against quality Irish opposition.

On Saturday if you have a few pennies or pounds to spare and are approached by a green track suited 12 year old please give generously; they will have calendars or tour programmes (which might become collectors items!) so not only will you receive something in return but you might just have met one of the stars of tomorrow!
