Kenya Quins Stumble Against Nondies

Quins recent winning streak came a cropper against a well-drilled and resilient Nondies side who defeated them 18-5 in a match that had big implications on the destiny of the Kenya Cup. Nondies were well prepared and treated it as final showing how desperate they were to complete a double over Quins

Quins turned up ready for the game and showed excellent defence in the first 10 minutes to thwart Nondies. Man of match Julius Abwanzo then put Quins in the lead after slicing through the Nondies rearguard halfway in the first half to make it 5-0. Nondies then hit back with Andrew Smith hitting the chalk just before the break to level the scores.

The second half saw Nondies race off the blocks immediately like the horses who are their neighbours at the racetracks with Allan Hicks scoring under the crossbar for Nondies to take the lead. With the kick between the sticks Nondies had a 7 point lead over Quins to make it 12-5 in their favour. Two penalties making it 18-5 stung Quins into action and they pummelled the Nondies defence in the last ten minutes of the game but it was to no avail as Nondies stood firm and as the mistakes happened just short of the try line, Quins knew it was not going to be their day. Final score 18-5 to the white shirts.

With KCB winning mercilessly against Machine 31-3, they snatched the lead from Quins as Quins dropped to joint second with Nondies. Two more games left and the cup must land at home lads. Our next opponents Impala and then KCB. Both games require bonus victories and one or two other results to go our way.

The seconds meanwhile had no such problems as they romped into the semi finals of the ESS with 22-17 victory over Blak Blad thus making the total aggregate score 33-23. Led by Cyrus the Virus the lads have their sights on the second division championship as they face KCB ll in a first leg semi at home this weekend.

Lets all turn up at the club and support the seconds this weekend, as the first have no assignment this Saturday. Good luck boys!
