Kenya Quins Begin Defence of National 7s Title

National Sevens Kings 'Kenya Harlequin' begin the defence of their national sevens title as well as being the defending champions of the Kisumu 7's tourney.
Quins who finished the 15's season with runners-up spots in both the Kenya Cup league and the Enterprise Cup are still very much hungry for some real silverware for their cupboards. Second best is not good enough by Quins standards thus the boys are raring to go this coming weekend. The four tournament circuit kicks off in Kisumu followed by Driftwood in Mombasa (7th and 8th Oct), Kabeberi (14th and 15th) and finally our own sponsored Christie 7's (20th and 21st October).
The team has been training under the combined tutelage of former national 7's and 15's coaches Gordon Anampiu and Ken Thimba. (Gordon resigned a month ago to concentrate totally on Quins. Kudos to him). Newer faces will be donning the Quins shirts this time as the younger crop are pushing for permanent places in the team to displace the older faces. Club Captain Edward Kinyany has finally hung up his boots after two years of threatening and immediately ascends to the Team Managers post for this weekend. Felix Ochieng the tireless veteran will make an appearance at some stage and we congratulate him for being appointed assistant national 7's coach. Keep the Quins flag flying high. With sevens captain Sidney Ashioya away on in international duty with the national 15's in Tunisia, the Quins team definitely takes new shape. Kisumu promises to be exciting and a baptism of fire for the young upstarts. We wish them all the best as they depart on Friday night for the lakeside contest. Good luck boys and bring the trophy back.
Quins Golf day will be held this Friday 22nd September at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club. The Annual golf fundraiser for the club has received good support from well-wishers and corporates in our quest to see more black than red in our coffers. Lets all get out there and have an enjoyable golf day with the grand finale at the 19th hole. Sammy Muraya and his crew have put in quite a bit of effort to ensure the day is successful.
After the presentations there will be roast meat and plenty beers back at the Quins clubhouse as the weekend activities commence with vigour. Definitely see you at the 19th hole.
