Relegation Roadmap: Round 13
By Quaking Quin
January 13 2007
Quins maintain their 100% record in 2007 with another committed performance that ensures they stay well on track for GP survival. The importance of the Bath result is recognized by our DoR while fellow relegation strugglers fall further behind.
Predicted Total Points after Bath: 41
Predicted Finish Position after Bath: 11th
Target remains at 11th spot because Bath was a 4 point banker.
Bath was a ‘must win’ game. The nail-biting result was vital to Quins survival and successfully reaches Deano’s target for the second phase of the season after the difficult start to life in the GP.
Quins now enter a period of return games, mainly against the top teams, on the run-in to the business end of the season and could drop the odd place in the league. With 6 wins in the bag and both Saints and Wuzz not able to find any form means things are beginning to look far more positive down at the Stoop.
It is still too soon to say Quins are safe – there is no forgetting ME’s proclamation that “37 points will be enough”. However, 2 more victories during the traditionally beneficial 6 Nations period will see the club close to hitting the magic 40 point threshold. Any lingering doubts would probably be removed as soon as the last weekend of January if Quins were to do the double on Bath and Wuzz lose at home to Wasps.
No wonder Deano said in his ‘Diary’ this week - “In the grand scheme of things, Saturday’s home win was a big result for us and a very satisfying one as far as I was concerned”. He also said after the game that he was unconcerned about the league position. Without relegation worries he can now concentrate on consolidating the league position and maybe still get something out of the Euro competition.
Roll on Bath……………
