Congratulations to Harlequin Ladies’ Number 8, Leah Carey, on her selection into the England U19 squad. Leah is now in her fifth season at Harlequin Ladies, having been part of the original youth squad set up in 1998.
Since turning 16, and becoming a member of the senior squad, Leah’s game has gone from strength-to-strength. She notes how, “training with Quins Ladies over the summer and captaining the South-East England U18s on the recent tour to Canada have prepared me well for the England trials.” Fifty players attended the trials, held last Sunday at Broadstreet RFC in Coventry, and Leah successfully made it through to the final squad.
Over the next year, Leah will be participating in four training weekends where she will be training alongside the England women’s squads. There are also games planned against the Welsh U19s side.
As well as proving a fantastic opportunity for one of the Quins Ladies’ talented youth team graduates, the senior squad can look forward to reaping the benefits of Leah’s experience in their own games.
