Rugby 7s voted in to the Olympics

Rugby 7s (as well as golf) has been voted on to the programme for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The International Olympic Committee have confirmed their executive board's decision with a majority of 81 to 8 in favour. Golf only had 63 votes for and 27 votes against. Both will be included in the 2020 games too.

The  last time rugby was in the Olympics was in 1924, but that was the 15 man version of the game.

Golf doesn't seem like an Olympic support to me, then again tennis seems to be an odd one too

Shame golf stayed in and shame it wasn't bought in time for London.

Can you explain it, or is it just a gut feeling? FWIW I agree - but then I think Rugby 7s in the Olympics is a bit weird too.
