Quins provide three players to the England EPS

With Easter out for about a month Harlequins provide just three players for the EPS for the Autumn Internationals - Care, Monye & Strettle.
During these three matches Quins will be playing Scarlets at home and Newcastle Falcons away in the AWC and then away at Northampton in the Premiership.
Scarlets are providing Martin Roberts, Stephen Jones, Jonathan Davies, Mark Jones, Matthew Rees and Dafydd Jones to the Welsh squad while Newcastle aren't losing any players to the England elite squad.
With wins in the Premiership being the priority Northampton are providing 4 players to the EPS and with Strettle and Monye likely to be unavailable it is good news that it will be the first game that Tom Williams will be available for selection.

Strettle back in England Squad

So the quins contingent to the EPS squad is Strettle, Care and Monye, with Easter expected to be out for 4 weeks. What's everyone else's thoughts on the squad? RFU Squad Announcement

so easter definitely out then? crane or haskell at 8 - great. crane looked good towards the end of last season but seems to have gone backwards

Yeah, torn right calf muscle so out for 4 weeks, real shame for him. glad to see Stretts back. Hope they make real good account of themselves - Ugo at fullback?

Looks like Ugo at fullback and what about the front row? No Flatman is surprising and who do you choose at tighthead between the experienced but uncapped Bell and the newly capped but inexperienced Wilson?

Keep Ugo on the wing.
Try that boy Lawes at no 8 for one of the games.He is good...and will get better.

Well done Stretts and I hope Easter recovers soon.
But I do have wonder what Nick Kennedy has done to deserve being left out? He's easily the best line out specialist in England.

I'm disappointed that Ceri didn't get into the Welsh squad but am very glad he's still available for us.
At least we'll have fewer missing than Northampton when we play them in the GP
Does anyone know if the players have to be available for other weekends around the AIs?

Johnson usually lets some players go back to their clubs, but these are players who are not first choice. I can't see us getting Monye and Care back for next Saturday's game for example, but won't be surprised if Strettle is released for that particular game.

Surely we have them for the Irish game? Prob be A squad for the anglo cup games anyhow so we aint doing bad out of that are we. So happy to see Stretts back in the squad, him n Ugo on wing heh wont happen I know but hey.

Argentina won't have the same claim on the players as England do so perhaps we won't lose them, then again they are both injured at the moment anyway

Bell has been capped, I believe. I'd also play Wilson if he's fit enough.

Goode was always going to be picked as one of the few flyhalfs left standing (and despite Ryan Lamb's resurgence, they'll never trust him).
Agree on the rest but you somehow forgot Joey Deacon.
Blaze has been talked up for years now and I've never seen him approach the level of performance that Lawes was putting in from his first televised match - I'd have any of the Quins locks ahead of Blaze! Percival for example can point to outstanding contributions in last season's HEC. Blaze, um...

BRW, largely agree, although I reckon Thompson still has something to offer, and I'd rather have him in there than Chuter. But Wigglesworth ahead of Simpspon/Ben Youngs/Micky Young, Goode ahead of Myler or Lamb (on this season's form) and Kay ahead of Kennedy (or Borthwick ahead of Kennedy for that matter). Obviously biassed, but rather have Percival or Robson ahead of kay and borthwick (though perhaps 80 mins of rugby this season is not quite enough to go on!)
And I really don't rate banahan. rather see benjamen, simpson-daniel, garvey, ashton. ok, he's going to score 9 times out of ten when he's one on one from 5m out, just as you'd expect from a 2nd row on the wing, but then he plays like a (admittedly fairly fast) 2nd row on the wing in every other aspect of his play
but a backline of care, wilkinson, geraghty, hipkiss/tait, monye, cueto, foden would be pretty tasty

I'm not sure if I'm in a minority but I really like the look of Banahan and would be very happy if he started. Not in place of Ugo mind you.

Did you get a chance to watch Bath vs Stade Francais? Banahan was legitimately excellent in that match - always dangerous and caused panic whenever he had the ball, and had the sense to exploit that properly (i.e. not just trying to bosh it up all the time). It was a deeply impressive performance, he worked hard and popped up all over the pitch with clever angles and good offloads and passes.
We have to remember he's only young and is improving all the time. I think he's well worth a spot now.
Garvey and Ashton, unfortunately, have serious problems in defence. Ashton in particular has looked to have improved that aspect so far this season but he was pretty hopeless last season which is why he hardly featured for Saints.

I would still be happier with Chuter over Thompson - the former isn't playing in a team that's playing total garbage and has just has their coach sacked for poor results. I now await the summoning of Jamie Noon once Tindall gets injured.

JG - Fair enough, I haven't seen that match, and if he played well then fair play to him. In any event, if he does get a start, I hope he does well, but I'm personally not convinced. In the matches I've seen him play he tends to just go for the route 1 option, as as soon as the defenders realise they should tackle low, and not try to wrao him up, or they use the touchline as an extra defender, he's far less effective. Of course, that does mean he can offload out of the tackle more often, but i prefer a more traditional wing.
More and more centres are now just bosh merchants, so it'd be nice to at least keep the wings playing their traditional roles.
But I'll wait and see what he doesn in the autumn, and if he does well then i'll happily take it back
