The Great British Bike Ride 1-4 September 2010
By Chris Munton & Tony Yerby
August 25 2010
The LEXUS Great British Bike Ride from Lands End to Twickenham Stadium, part organised by Chris Munton, is now nearly upon us.
Over 170 Riders and some 50 Volunteers and army personnel will be arriving on the pitch at Twickenham on Sat 4th September, during the half time break in the Quins v London Irish game at the London Double Header.
The Event is raising funds for ‘Help for Heroes’, ‘The RFU Injured Players Foundation’ and the ‘RPA Benevolent Fund’. The Title Sponsor, will be handing over an initial charity cheque for £50K, on the Pitch during a brief ceremony. Richard Hill MBE the Event’s Ambassador is unable to ride due to a further breakdown of his damaged knee, but Martin Johnson and Jason Leonard are standing in and riding a stage each.
If you’re at the match, give the lads an extra cheer as I’m sure that these charities are ‘near and dear’ to all our hearts.
Further details can be found at www.greatbritishbikeride.com.
Quins fans Tony & Ben Yerby are taking part and can be sponsored for these great causes, here's a note from them:
Afternoon all
Having worked on the Quins cycling shirts, I thought would be rude not to go...
It's 350 Miles from Land's End back to Twickenham over four days, in Aid of Help For Heroes, Rugby Players Benevolent Fund and The Injured Players Association.
I am doing it with Ben and there is a rumour we are going to ride to the start from home, which would make it 650 miles-ish !
It would be nice to know in those moments when we are doubting our sanity, that we are raising lots of money for three great causes ;0)
