What to do now the tour rugby is over and there’s a sporting wasteland until the start of the season? For those of you without a calendar, that’s 1st September. Well, here's my plan...
Currie Cup
A competition I try and get excited about, but usually don't. It kicks off today and runs to 13th October.
NZ ITM Cup
Starts 23rd August. Same as the Currie Cup, a competition I might occasionally watch.
The Rugby Championship 2012
Now this will be something to watch, if only to keep tabs on Argentina! Kicks of 18th August with Australia v New Zealand and South Africa v Argentina
J.P. Morgan 7s
Like them or loathe them, they are the only live rugby you're going to actually see between now and LDH. For that reason I find myself turning up against all my better judgement. Besides, we must have a good chance of winning!
Wimbledon
On for another week, get's more exciting as it goes. Unfortunatlely less and less likely to watch the Ladies tennis as it goes on. That's because the shriekers get nearer and nearer the final. If Sharapova is in any game, then I certainly won't be watching it.
Tour de France
Luckily enough as Wimbledon finishes is just when the Tour starts for me. I can't be bothered with watching them schlepp 200 miles over a landscape as flat as a salt pan. The mountains sorts the men from the boys, so that is going to work out well this year.
The **** Olympics
Surely there must be something here to like. Kicks of 27th July and runs forever. (Already seems like it's been running forever with all the advertising the BBC has been doing).
Cricket England vs Australia
Not generally a cricket fan, but for the ODIs against Australia have already started. On 19th July at the Oval England vs South Africa in the first test.
Motor Racing
For some reason I'm watching more of this in my old age. Of course it's not as good as when I was a lad. You don't see the stars like Ayrton Senna or James Hunt anymore! Harumph! Anyway, Silverstone GP is 8th July.
Golf - The Open
Also kicks off 19th July at Royal Lytham and St Annes
Olympics - Cycling
This gets a special mention as it closes all the roads around my house for the day and imprisons me! 28th and 29th July.
Football
Kicks of 18th August. Who cares?
Rugby League: Challenge Cup Final
At Wembley on 25th August. Again, who cares?

I m over in the USA at the moment on business and having survived the basketball playoffs the first week I was here - won by Miami Heat, I ve been fed a diet of wall to wall baseball every night since. It s on in every bar every night although, Wimbeldon is also now getting air time live starting at 6am in the morning!
Maybe it is because there is nothing else on but I have started to enjoy it. Last week the San Fransciso Giants beat Los Angeles Dodgers three games to nil last week, without the Dodgers scoring a Home run. That took the Giants to the top of the league, only for them to loose their next two games to the Cincinatti Reds... at home!
Being a saturday most BB games were during the day so I had a treat of watching major league soccer last night. A sell out game played at the Stanford University Stadium in Palo Alto the San Jose Giants ( see they don t have primacy of tenre either!) against the LA Galaxy. What a treat, what a laugh. The standard of play was appalling. It is easy to see why David Beckham was over looked for the Olympics. Yes he scored a goal, from a free kick after half an hour, and that was his sole contribution to the game apart from picking up a yellow card 2 minutes into the 3 minute stoppage time at the end of the game. That was amusing too as during a break in play he took a practice free kick and the ball sailed majestically towards the goal but hit the referee who was speaking with the goal keeper at the time!
The game was strewn with errors, hardly major league A lot of the players' attempts at goal, had these been Rugby, would have easily secured 3 points!
The Earthquakes beat Galaxy 4-3 after scoring first and going 1-3 by half time.
